What is The School That Works?
The School That Works is a workforce program that works with both high school students and graduates to pursue meaningful careers through a blending of character formation, development of life skills/employability skills, work experiences, and opportunities.
ADVANTAGES OF THE SCHOOL THAT WORKS:
The School That Works is a collaboration between GU2L, Local 370, Local 948, GISD, MI Works, Mott CC, as well as over 25 area business partners.
Focus is on the Individual: There are multiple pathways to success. Young people should be supported in following the trajectory that is well-suited to their unique characteristics, motivations, interests, circumstances, and needs.
The Development of Soft Skills and Workforce Readiness Skills: These cognitive, social, and emotional competencies need to be developed before entering the workforce.
A Feeling of Connection: The presence of caring, committed adults to provide moral and emotional support.
Guaranteed jobs: For all students who complete our skills program and participate for at least 12 hours a week in education activities leading to a high school diploma, and avoid adverse risk-taking behaviors.
